February 14 can be one of the most pressure-filled days of the year for couples, young or old. Valentine’s Day, in our opinion, should be celebrated 365 days a year. If you love someone, let them know. We can help you find great wines everyday, but since Valentines’ Day comes but once a year, let’s make sure you pick the perfect wine for this special occasion.
Menu and Pairing Ideas for Two:
Simple. Elegant. Two ingredients. Fresh, luscious strawberries and one bottle of a special bubbly. Think outside of the box, and consider a sparkling rose such as Lete-Vautrain Rose Royal.
A classic champagne favorite is the ever perfect Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin Brut. It always pleases from first sip to last.
A classic Valentine’s Day treat includes a box of chocolates, so take it a step further by sharing a box of handmade truffles and a Port or Sherry.
If you want a rare treat, Taylor Fladgate Vintage Port will make your date swoon. It’s definitely a port wine worth sipping next to a fire with someone very special.
Graham’s 20-Year-Old Tawny Port is rich, sweet, and smooth on the palate – can you say perfect evening sipper with someone you are sweet on?
What’s more romantic that sitting candle-side, dipping rustic breads into a scrumptious cheese fondue and sipping an exquisite wine?
Pick up a wedge of Rolf Beeler Gruyere. It’s an exceptional Swiss cheese that is fabulous for a fondue. Pair it with a wine as equally special such as Shafer “Red Shoulder” Chardonnay.
A cheese fondue will also pair superbly with a slightly off-dry Chenin Blanc.
Imagine broiled lobster tails, two champagne flutes, and a bottle of chilled sparkling wine. We can, and think Roederer Estate L “Ermitage” Brut, with its round creamy finish, will pair nicely. In fact, it goes well with any fish or shellfish.
Another option is an American sparkling wine by Schramsberg. Here’s a delicate, off-dry wine with a creamy texture. You’ll do well with Schramsberg Crémant Demi-sec paired with any shellfish dinner, or you may want to uncork and skip right to dessert.
Imagine a grilled filet mignon, or a rare roast beef spread with a salad and a decanted bottle of wine ready to sip. You set the scene; we’ll pick the wine. Red meat and red wine create the perfect couple. Rich, juicy, and complex. Consider pairing with a Cabernet Sauvignon like this 2013 vintage, Roberts + Rogers from Napa Valley.
Go down under with the meaty, smoky red from Mollydooker. “Two Left Feet” might express how you feel on a date, but after a glass of this intense Australian wine, you’ll feel right at ease.
