Since cannabis has been legalized in Minnesota, THC-based drinks have rapidly increased in popularity, quickly becoming a favorite alternative for people looking to reduce or eliminate their alcohol consumption. The THC-beverage industry topped $200,000 over the last couple of years, and at some breweries, these THC beverages are even outselling beer! The trend is clear: people are increasingly curious and excited to try something new.
If you’re ready to see what all the excitement surrounding THC beverages is about, Haskell’s is here to provide you with some of the best beverages on the market.
If you’re new to consuming cannabis, one of the first steps to enjoying these products is to familiarize yourself with one of the more basic terms: THC. THC stands for tetrahydrocannabinol. The scientific term may seem a bit daunting, but it isn’t crucial to remember. What is important to know is that THC is the psychoactive compound that gives you the feeling of being “high.” Much like how a cocktail or beer uses ABV (alcohol by volume) to show the alcohol content and potency of a beverage, cannabis-based beverages, like Sociable Cider’s Squoze Blueberry Haze and Insight’s Flavor Pixels Cherry Lime, use THC to show the potency of the beverage.
Currently, in Minnesota, cannabis-based products can have 5 mg of THC per serving, with beverages allowed up to two servings per can, totaling 10 mg of THC per can. Although THC affects everyone in slightly different ways, 5 mg is considered a low dosage. This lower dose allows you to experience the effects of THC without feeling overwhelmed, making it a great starting point for your cannabis journey.
So, what can you expect after consuming a THC beverage? Aside from a great taste and avoiding a dreaded hangover the next morning, the quick and not-so-helpful answer is, “It depends.” The experience can vary for each person. Generally, people experience a feeling of relaxation, but others experience feelings of motivation and increased energy. Your personal experience will be influenced by various factors like your metabolism, your tolerance level, and even your mood at the time of consumption. That is why we recommend a “slow is better” approach.
Typically, THC takes a little longer to feel the effects, so we recommend drinking around half of a 5 mg THC beverage and then waiting 45 minutes to an hour to see how you feel. This slow approach will give you a good idea of the sensations your body is feeling and also establish a comfortable baseline for your experience.
Now that you have a little better understanding of THC and how it will affect you, we have some great products available at Haskell’s.
The first delicious THC beverage we recommend is lightly carbonated, sweetened with pure cane sugar and freshly pressed raspberry puree, and locally made by our friends at Sociable Cider Werks! Sociable’s Squoze Raspberry Haze is a must-try delicious beverage that has the right amount of sweetness and delicious flavor.
The second THC beverage we think you will enjoy is Hi D8 Watermelon THC Seltzers. This seltzer is lightly sweetened with notes of watermelon, melon, and cucumber. More similar to a flavored seltzer water than a sweetened beverage, this watermelon THC seltzer has 0 sugar and 0 calories. This seltzer is light and refreshing, perfect for those sunny weekends.
Although we have plenty more THC beverages for you to try, the third seltzer we love is from our friends at Cann. Their Grapefruit Rosemary THC Seltzer offers a complex and elevated flavor, mixing herbaceous rosemary with citrusy fresh grapefruit. This seltzer is a great introductory THC beverage because it is low dosage with only 2 mg of THC.
At Haskell’s, we are excited that THC beverages are becoming more mainstream, and we are committed to helping you have an enjoyable and responsible experience. We know that everyone is at a different stage of discovery in their cannabis journey, and we are here to help, whether you are new to THC or a THC connoisseur. So, welcome to the new era of THC beverages! Cheers to exploring more great drinks with Haskell’s!
