Elizabeth Ries describes the new wine bar as "a new, hidden gem" in Downtown Minneapolis, and Emily Engberg sat down with our very own Ted Farrell to explore some of the Wine Bar's offerings—from wine, cheese and much more!
The New Downtown Hot Spot
"We've been doing the wine side of things for 85 years," Ted says. "We thought, 'Let's combine it with our deli operation, which we've been doing for 35 years.' Let's get it encompassed into one big package and have a lot of fun!"
Opening a wine bar has been a long-awaited dream for the Haskell's family and it couldn't have happened at a better time, as the city of Minneapolis welcomes a surge of local and out-of-town traffic for Sunday's Big Game hosted at U.S. Bank Stadium. In fact, the 10-day Super Bowl Live festival leading up to the Big Game is happening literally right outside of the Wine Bar along Nicollet Mall.
"We're right in the epicenter of the whole thing," Ted says.
The Wine Bar features dozens of wines, eight craft beers on tap, an espresso drink menu, artisan bread, cheeses and much more – but the menu doesn't stop there. Our historic downtown Haskell's Wine and Spirits location is right next door, and you can purchase a bottle of wine from that massive selection (12,000 SKUs of wine!) and bring it over to the Wine Bar for a small corkage fee to enjoy.
