Six Tips to Avoid Wine Stained Teeth

Written by Beau Farrell | Oct 27, 2015 5:20:42 PM

Wine is good for our hearts, but not necessarily for our smiles. Sometimes, what goes in your mouth stays there. Coffee, soda, tea, and wine — both red and white — can all leave behind unwanted teeth stains. So, what’s a line lover to do? We know a lot more about wine than dental hygiene, but we’ve found some great ways to avoid wine stained teeth.

  • Sparkling Water
Drink it, swirl it, swish it between glasses of wine. The carbonation helps prevent stains from setting in.
  • Cheese Please
Have more cheese with that glass of Cab Franc. The calcium helps keep your teeth strong and rebuild enamel.
  • Eat Your Vegetables
Chomp on the crudités at the party. All that fiber will act like Mother Nature’s toothbrush, plus it helps create saliva that will wash away potential stains.
  • Brush Before
It’s about the acid levels. Mayo Clinic experts say that if you “know you're going to eat or drink something acidic, brush your teeth beforehand. “
  • Wine Wipes
These portable wipes contain baking soda, hydrogen peroxide, calcium, glycerin, and orange blossom. Do they work? Reviews are good. Let us know!
  • Whitening Toothpaste
Researchers say whitening toothpaste can help. But it won’t happen overnight and excessive use is hard on your teeth.

And, of course, a good old-fashioned annual appointment with your dentist is recommended. October is National Dental Hygiene Month, after all. Take care of your teeth. We want you smiling big when you stop by for your favorite bottle of wine.
