Are you single and not-so-ready-to-mingle? Planning a solo movie marathon? Celebrate Valentine's Day with a little bit of me-time. A perfect movie and cocktail pairing can make February 14th all about you. Don’t worry, no spoilers!
Follow Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan as Harry Burns and Sally Albright, asking the truly important question, “Can men and women ever just be friends?”
And yes, I know what you’re thinking, “I’ll have what she’s having.” In this case, it’s a Manhattan. A classic movie needs a classic cocktail. Both the movie and the drink are simple and elegant, yet, at the same time, complex and layered.
When making the Manhattan, you won’t go wrong with either rye or bourbon–choose whatever you like best. Bourbon tends to be a little sweeter, and rye tends to be a little drier.
In a mixing glass:
2 ounces Jeffers Creek Bourbon
1 ounce of Martini & Rossi Sweet Vermouth
2 dashes of Angosutra bitters
Add ice
Stir until the drink is chilled
If you really want to be fancy, strain into a Nick & Nora or whatever glass you’d like.
Garnish with a cherry
Next, we fast-forward a few decades and head to the other side of the globe.
The quick answer to why we love this movie, it is beautiful. The story, the people, and the scenery take us on an adventure away from the cold and into paradise. It makes us want to book the next trip to Singapore and live a crazy, rich life.
But since that isn’t in the budget, the next best thing is Crazy, Rich Asians and the Singapore Sling.
We love this drink because, even with a long list of ingredients, it isn’t overly boozy, and it can be made even less boozy by adding more club soda. It’s bright, refreshing, and a perfect February escape.
In a shaker:
¾ ounce Vikre Boreal Juniper gin
¼ ounce Benedictine
¼ ounce Sathenay Triple Sec
¼ ounce Cherry Heering
1 ounce pineapple juice
½ ounce lime juice (fresh squeezed is best)
Finally, add 1 dash of Angostura bitters
Shake with ice
Strain into a tall glass, add fresh ice, and top with club soda
Garnish with an orange slice and a cherry
If you’re thinking, “Alright, yes, RomComs are fine, but not on Valentine’s Day,” here are some other recommendations.
Before the night’s hijinks begin, the characters in The Hangover share shots of Jagermeister on the hotel rooftop. If you’re in a party mood, gather the wolfpack, share a bottle, crack open some beers, and watch the madness ensue. Alan, Phil, and Stu are guaranteed laughs.
If you want a bit of that wild energy but the couch is a little too comfy, join the Flossy Posse and embrace a cocktail with a touch of absinthe. But unlike the ladies in Girls Trip, in our Espresso Martini, the absinthe is a whisper, not the main event.
In a shaker
2 ounces of cold brew coffee
1 ½ ounces of Grain Mill Vodka
½ ounce Martini & Rossi Sweet Vermouth
½ ounce simple syrup
Shake with ice
Strain into a martini glass
With a dropper, add 2-3 drops of Tattersall Absinthe
We hope that you spend Valentine’s Day celebrating your people and your independence. Our staff is always ready to show you the perfect bottle to make your evening special, whether it’s a solo night or an evening with friends.
