It makes sense that the month celebrating Cupid is also the month that honors the heart. February is National Heart Month, reminding us to take good care of the organ that keeps us ticking. What’s good for the heart?
Many say red wine – in moderation – may be just what the doctor ordered. Researchers at the Mayo Clinic say, “Resveratrol might be a key ingredient in red wine that helps prevent damage to blood vessels, reduces low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol (the "bad" cholesterol) and prevents blood clots.”
And who are we to argue with the Mayo Clinic? So, let’s take a look at some everyday red wine favorites that are great one-glass sippers any night of the week and all under $15 a bottle. Each of these will pair well with a hearty dinner, or with a favorite book next to the fireplace. Of course, these wines are delicious enough to share with friends and loved ones, but we’ll let you decide.
Tip: Store any left over wine so you can enjoy that bottle again another evening. Since air is the enemy of wine, consider pouring the wine into a smaller vessel. Here’s where a spare 375ml bottle can save the day, or at least the wine. Cheers!
